Phew! SpeedMachine may well be firmly in the rear-view mirror now, but we’re still recovering from what was a truly epic, jam-packed weekend.
The latest round of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship took place at Silverstone, where for the second year in a row, it acted as the centrepiece for SpeedMachine festival: a celebration of motorsport, car culture and general awesomeness at the home of motor racing.
And the best bit: Codemasters was out in force and stole the show with our DiRT Rally 2.0 garage!
In the main paddock at the heart of the action, the Codies squad had a dedicated garage space to show off our latest off-road racing release. Everyone at the event had the chance to jump into a top-spec gaming setup: a Playseat rig, running DiRT Rally 2.0 on a PS4 Pro, through an ASUS ROG curved monitor. Phwoar.
We put together a clutch of these setups, all circling around a very special attraction: the actual Xite Racing Team Ford Fiesta Supercar for World RX, that was driven by Sir Chris Hoy earlier this season in Spain!
The team touched down on Friday to begin the garage setup, just a few feet away from the RX teams breaking out the tents and tools as they prepared for racing. Later on, the majority of the World RX roster swung by our garage to have a go on DR2.0. We even got a few of the drivers into an online lobby to race each other on the virtual Silverstone circuit! Unsurprisingly, things got a little competitive… but it was the UK’s own Ollie Bennett that emerged victorious. GG.
Doors opened on Saturday for the public and, without exaggeration, there wasn’t an empty Playseat in our garage from Saturday morning to Sunday night. We were constantly greeting groups of fans as they took the game for a spin, had a watching brief, or even got the chance to step inside the World RX Fiesta, sitting in the same cockpit as an Olympic champion.
The garage was buzzing with excitement all weekend. Everyone from youngsters, to real-world racers, to esports pros turned up to see what all the fuss was about. We loved bringing the DiRT experience to SpeedMachine and certainly felt right at home. We also made sure to head over to the circuit and take in some amazing World RX racing, which was heavy on the noise, airtime and action – just how we like it.
Pack-down took place on Sunday night – all soundtracked by a banging live set from Mistajam – and as the sun set, we dropped down the garage door on a fantastic weekend. Getting DiRTy with thousands of fellow motorheads at Silverstone – what’s not to love?
Massive thanks go to our many partners that helped make the DiRT Rally 2.0 garage so popular throughout the weekend: World RX and SpeedMachine organisers, the entire Xite Energy team, Playseat, PlayStation, ASUS and Silverstone Circuit.
Big thanks also go to the many members of the Codies team across all departments, who took the time to set up the garage, chat to the fans, put out social content and so much more. Kudos to our two photography maestros Robert Hitchman and Russ Otway as well, who contributed to our full gallery from SpeedMachine, which you can check out here.
It was a true team effort, and we can’t wait to take DiRT back out on the road again!
