Codies Racing Line – October 29, 2020
As always, we hope you are all well and staying happy and healthy – and just about handling your excitement for what’s around the corner in the gaming world.
It’s an exhilarating time right now to be a gamer, and Codies is firmly placed in the centre of it all with new releases, new content, esports action and so much more on the schedule. As you can probably guess, it remains an incredibly busy time for the whole team, who continue to smash it out of the park in less than ideal circumstances. Kudos to all of them – we’re just here to tell you what they’ve been working on!
Here’s the last two weeks of Codemasters news, content and general goings-on for you to kick back and take in, starting off with the small matter of a game launching next week…
Think about this. The next time we bring you the Racing Line, DIRT 5 would have launched on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, begun its launch on PlayStation 5, and be about to launch on Xbox Series X.
Woah. Guess we better get on with this week’s edition then!
We were thrilled to confirm that DIRT 5 will launch with PlayStation 5 from November 12, completing our slate of November arrival dates for our boldest ever off-road racer. DIRT 5 comes to Sony’s next-gen console with a slate of visual and technical enhancements, including 120fps options and faster load times, and also utilises the DualSense controller features for a brand new layer of racing immersion. We have even more details to drop on this soon, so keep an eye out for that as we speed to November 12.
Speaking of next-gen (we love a good segue), if you’re planning to take DIRT 5 for spin on Xbox Series X on November 10, make sure to check out our official trailer, with all gameplay captured directly from Series X! Remember: DIRT 5 offers free upgrade options for both console platforms, so if you can’t wait until later this month to dive in, pre-order DIRT 5 for Xbox One or PS4, then upgrade to the next-gen version in a couple of weeks, free of charge. Sorted.
That’s plenty of console chat – now for some PC love! We’ve been closely watching AMD this week as they reveal all on the Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics, not just because it’s some sweet new tech, but because DIRT 5 makes full use of it. With DirectX12 and RDNA under the bonnet, the PC experience for DIRT 5 is a pretty sensational one. Find out more in this video.
We are so close now to DIRT 5 releasing to the world – and yet, we’ve still got a trick or two up our sleeve. Check out @dirtgame channels tomorrow at 9am GMT, to make sure you’re prepared for launch. 😉
Hello everyone, PJ here doing his best Nico Hülkenberg impression to fill in for Jenny who is away this week.
Lewis Hamilton breaks all-time wins record
Let’s start with the big news from the sport itself, where Lewis Hamilton finally eclipsed the record that many thought was impossible, taking his 92nd Grand Prix™ victory. It’s a monumental achievement and a mark that will stand the test of time. How many do you think he will reach by the time he closes out his career? 100 is certainly doable, and already well within reach.
To put the score into context, if you were to fire up F1® 2020 and start a new My Team save today, you would need to complete four full seasons and win every race along the way, along with four more wins in your fifth season to match that total.
F1® have put out a great YouTube playlist covering the achievement from all angles; check it out here.
2021 F1 Esports Series Qualifiers
As I write this, there’s only a few days left to take part in the first F1® Esports Qualifier for next year. Your objective? Take Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes to Monza, chase down Charles Leclerc and secure P2.
Need a little help? Our qualification guide covers all the basics of getting a good score.
There are plenty of reasons to take part other than the top prize however, with a sweet set of golden F1 Esports items awarded to participants, and the ever-enjoyable bragging rights for beating your friends. Don’t have anyone to go up against? Try beating my score if you like. I’m no pro, so only 166,000 points for me in this one. At least I did it with all of the assists turned off!
The Monza Qualifier will wrap up at the end of October 31st, and the second month’s Qualifier will go live soon after that. Keep an eye on @formula1game for details.
DHL Virtual Fastest Lap Challenge
DHL Motorsport are offering you the chance to qualify for the 2021 F1 Esports Time Trial. All you have to do is try to beat the Lap time set by Lucas Blakeley from BWT Racing Point F1 Esports Team in Round 2 of the 2020 F1® Esports Pro Series. Record your fastest lap set on the Hanoi circuit in F1® 2020, attempting to beat or get close to the time of 01:33.686, and send over proof of your flying lap. All the details can be found over on DHL’s website.
That’ll do it for now – good luck out there in your next race.
DIRT RALLY 2.0
Hey everyone, PJ here again for some Rally news!
DiRT Rally 2.0 passes 9 Million Driver milestone
Earlier this month we passed a significant milestone, as 9 million of you have braved the Stages with us! To celebrate, we shared some stats, which you can read all about over here.
It’s been a long journey and we’re nearing the end for DiRT Rally 2.0 as the development team focuses on the future, but we’d like to thank you all for the FLAT OUT attacks, the front-right punctures, the epic rallycross battles and everything else you’ve been up to.
In that time you’ve clocked up more than 1.5 billion kilometres of driving, tackled close to 200 million Stages, and created many exciting stories along the way. Speaking of, we’ve got a few more to write this weekend…

PROJECT CARS 3
Welcome back fellow racers! Things may appear rather quiet on the surface from us at Slightly Mad, but don’t let that deceive you — this is only the calm before the sandstorm. Legends are coming and while you wait (yes, there’s two clues about what’s coming next week in what you just read!), here’s what you may have missed from the world of Project CARS 3 since our last Racing Line entry.
We have our own blog! Every two weeks on a Thursday, we’ll shine a light on news relevant to the Project CARS franchise and place you, the community, on the top spot of the podium. We powered off the line with a special interview with a community member on his advocacy in leading the push for accessibility in racing games, and it’s a fascinating insight into how our racing community creates games and accessibility for racers with disabilities.
Along with our Driving Seat blog, we will also be bringing you insightful blogs about the various cars featured in Project CARS 3. The facts, the history, and all the stats needed to win can be found in this Ferrari F40 special feature – the first of the series.
Following on from winning gamescom 2020 “Best Simulation Game” award, Project CARS 3 continues to turn heads. The racing game has now been nominated for “Game of the Year” award at the TIGA Game Industry Awards 2020. You can cast your vote right here before October 30th.
And that’s it from me this week. Be sure to keep an eye out for the latest Project CARS 3 news by following us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and don’t forget to join the Discord community and check our website for regular updates.
