Pinch, punch, first of the month. ;) Hello and Happy Friday! It’s time for another edition of the DiRT Rally Road Book – if you’re after the latest news and views from the DiRT community, you’ve come to the right place.
As we discussed in our last update, the PC leaderboard wipe has now happened – and as a result, we’re seeing a lot more legitimate World Records being set! It’s been great for us to watch the leaderboards fill back up with some absolutely ace times – so looks like you guys have taken on the challenge of the clean slate admirably. A particularly special shout out goes to Dgeesio for setting top times and PBs all over the place – keep an eye out for his name on the timesheets and see if you can give him a run for his money.
RaceNet and online leagues
So, as many of you found out, our RaceNet service went down this weekend. Unfortunately, there wasn’t the resource to fix this until Monday morning – but you’ll be pleased to know that the service has been restored and that we’re keeping a close eye on it for now. What’s happened has, however, prompted a review of how we approach out-of-hours support – so the silver lining is that off the back of this, we’re hoping to be a lot more prepared in dealing with something similar in the future.
As a gesture of thanks, we also re-ran the PPIHC Special Event which was initially supposed to take place this past weekend (and we also did it with +30% increased rewards!) – so we hope all of you managed to capitalise on this for a cheeky credit boost. In light of the outage, we’re also offering some more fun stuff too – which I’ll let Hatward tell you about a little later on.
We’re also aware that some people were experiencing some issues with their leagues not resetting or keeping updated from week to week. We introduced a fix for these league bugs on Tuesday, which looks to have resolved these problems – so hopefully anyone experiencing this before will now be bug free. If you’re finding that’s not the case, please let us know – just head to any of the usual places to keep us informed.
DiRT Rally VR
We know you’re all super-hyped for Oculus VR support to make its official debut to DiRT Rally, as your questions have been flooding in thick and fast about it! We don’t have any new info we can share just yet – but we will do in the very near future. This is just a quick line to say don’t worry: we hear you, we’re all over it, and stay tuned. :)
However, the feedback from E3 is that the experience has been absolutely awesome, with some fans saying that the new experience makes it feel as though you’re arriving at the game for the first time. We’ve done a lot of work to get this support polished and exactly as we’d want it, and it won’t be long until you’re able to finally get your hands on it.
Bandit Helmet giveaway
In case you’ve missed our competition this week, we’re giving away a Simpson Bandit helmet, signed by legendary rally driver Ari Vatanen. If you’re not familiar with his work, then this video should tell you all you need to know (and watch out for the insane save around the 1:59 mark).
To enter the competition, all you need to do is follow these here instructions:
Hangin’ with Hatward
Hello DiRT fans! What’s new with you?
If you were around last weekend, you may have noticed a little RaceNet faux pas if you tried to connect to any of our Online Events. This was caused by a very rare bug that happened to hit at exactly the wrong moment for us. We fixed it as quickly as we could and we’ve put some fail safes in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again, but that won’t help you get your Weeklies done will it?
We’re going to run them again, alongside your regularly scheduled events. Each Weekly will appear one at a time, in the Special Events slot in the bottom right of your Online Events menu.
First up will be Kit Cars in Sweden, which will run Monday (4th) to Monday (11th) next week. The Group A International event will start immediately after that, from the 11th to the 18th July. By way of apology, rewards in both of these events will be boosted by 30%.
AND THAT’S NOT ALL!
Being a VIP in DiRT is sometimes about being a shining beacon of knowledge in the community. Sometimes, it’s about creating incredible DiRT Rally content. Sometimes, it’s about being one of the fastest drivers on the planet.
This month, we’ll be celebrating the latter.
The top three finishers in both of the Weekly re-runs will be bestowed with shields and liveries. On all three platforms. You shouldn’t need to ask Carol Vorderman to work out that by August there will be 18 more Very Important VIPs amongst you.
Sound good? Cool. Let me know how you get on over on Twitter – @Hatward. I’ll be running all of these events on PS4 and I’m sure my times will be beatable. ;) I’m looking at you, EvilSmurf.
Oh, one last thing – the keen eyed amongst you may have noticed that there’s a new Rallycross Special Event live today! In HOLJES if you can imagine that. Go test drive some Supercars – they’re all free to drive. You’ve got one run to finish before 11am Monday.
Enjoy your weekends! Love you bye.
