Community Spotlight – Xbox Racing League

This week we’re shining the Community Spotlight on the Xbox Racing League (XRL), one of the (if not the) largest F1 leagues in Australia. We spoke to Nick, one of the admins, about how the league started, and how this year’s season came to an exciting end.

Hey Nick, could you tell us a bit about yourself and the XRL?
Hi, my name is Nick and I’m an Admin and Vice President for the Xbox Racing League (XRL). We are a group of people who love racing in the Codemasters Formula One games and want to share the ultimate racing league experience with fellow Australians and New Zealanders.
The XRL is currently the largest racing league in Australia. If you would like to view our races on YouTube check out my channel! – www.youtube.com/user/Ntay4.
How many platforms does your league support?
Xbox Racing League currently supports Xbox 360 and we will later support Xbox One for new-gen F1.
If people wanted to join your league how would they go about it?
There are a few ways to join our league. You can visit our website and fill out the online submission form at: http://www.xboxracingleague.com/ or post in the forums expressing your interest to join.
You can also message me (Full Throttle2) or the other admins (FinalChicane and HaroldBISHOP81) on Xbox. Now is the time, as the 2014 game is quickly approaching.
Tell us a bit more about how your league was started.
Back in early 2013, Leonski xX (current league driver) started a league for F1 2012. However the league was shut down after F1 2012’s launch to make way for the XRL and F1 2013.
We started taking it more seriously, more than just a fun Sunday night, but an extremely competitive league that grew from one tier to three and now a fourth for the 2014 game. We never thought we would achieve that when we started the league!
We feel there are many F1 fans and gamers out there who simply don’t know about league racing. We hope to let them know how to find us, and that they are more than welcome to join XRL.
How is your current season/championship going?
A few Sundays ago was our last race of Season 2 and our final league race on F1 2013. We decided to replicate real life F1 with Abu Dhabi being the final race of the season, and of course – double points! In F1 (first tier) the gap from first (GREEKMASTER99) and second (Freeeo) in the championship ended up being only 11 points. However, constructors was even closer – only 5 points separated first (Lotus) and second (Red Bull).
The final race of the season was a thriller, especially under the lights of Abu Dhabi! The F1 tier was very competitive with 4 different winners and several drivers claiming podiums throughout the season. The GP2 tier was extremely competitive with 12 different winners and the GP3 championship had been a 2 horse race between kingbowler001 and bySeiko from start to finish.
How would you describe your league to someone that hasn’t heard of it before?
The XRL is a competitive environment made by gamers, for gamers. We take our racing seriously, and want to race clean while having tense battles.
Out of all the league races you’ve witnessed which one has been your favourite?
I’d have to say the Italian Grand Prix in Season 1. That was the race where I got my first ever podium in the league. The race also had a safety car and a lot of action. What more could you ask for?
And finally, if you had to describe your league in three words, what would they be?
Clean, exciting, competitive
Thank you Luke for interviewing our league. This is very exciting for us and hopefully we can gain a few members. I would also like to thank you on behalf of the F1 community for being a fantastic community manager. All of our questions are answered quickly about the F1 games and this is very encouraging to see.
Any closing comments?
