The DiRT Roadbook – August 9, 2019

August 9, 2019

It’s been a massive week for DiRT Rally 2.0 but one thing never changes, a new Roadbook!

VR for DiRT Rally 2.0: Available Now on Oculus and Steam

Let’s start with the big one. VR is here!

I think it’s safe to say that VR was the most requested feature since DiRT Rally 2.0 launched and now that it’s here a totally new experience is available to players. I won’t go over everything here in The DiRT Roadbook as yesterday’s announcement was quite comprehensive, but I highly recommend you have a read:

The VR talk doesn’t end there though, as our friends at Oculus had a sit-down with Ross Gowing, the Game Director for DiRT Rally 2.0 to talk about the implementation of VR. Have a read on the Oculus blog below:

Finally, while I’m here let’s have a quick word about how you’re all experiencing VR right now. Many players are having a good time with this new way to play, which is fantastic to see. A number of users however are having a less than stellar experience (particularly on Steam), and we’re fully aware of that.

Ever since yesterday’s update we’ve been looking at the reported issues and talking internally about how to handle them. Some are simply user errors, for which we’re planning an FAQ with suggestions and workarounds, but others are things that may require bugfixing and updates. Just like the rest of the game we’re not dropping this in the wild and forgetting about it, your experience will improve as the team continues its support.

As a side-note some users may have noticed an additional 1.2GB update on top of Version 1.7. I’ve been told by the team that this was for the depots/preload of the Estering Rallycross circuit, which is releasing next week.

DirtFish Liveries & Test Drive Location: Free for all Players

Also released yesterday were the DirtFish liveries and Test Drive location, as free content for all players! Based on the real-life rally school of the name name, DirtFish is an open-space area with various ways for you to test out your car, or if you’re like some of my favourite YouTubers, the ideal place to do Gymkhana runs.

To access the location select [Garage] from the My Team main menu, and then [Vehicle Options] and [Test Drive].

Version 1.7, and new Achievements!

As you may have gathered, Version 1.7 was a massive one and on top of the highlights there were numerous bugfixes and updates based on community feedback. Also in there are 4 new Achievements! As somebody that likes to 100%-complete games I enjoy, I know what I’m doing this weekend (assuming I can pull myself away from the F1 2019 Ranked Multiplayer lobbies!).

  • The Home Favourite – Win in Latvia in the Reinis Nitišs Ford Fiesta Rallycross (MK7)
  • Mr Rallycross – Win 3 Rallycross Events in the Ford RS200 Evolution
  • The Hills are Alive… – Complete an Event in Wales
  • SEND IT – Win at Estering in Kevin Eriksson’s Ford Fiesta Rallycross (MK8)

Estering, Germany: Available on August 13

You’ll have to wait a few days for that last Achievement but it’s totally worth is as the final Season 2 content is upon us! Estering is a German Rallycross circuit that’s been on the FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar for several years, and is a thrilling place with high speed sections, challenging braking points and a Joker section that catches out the best of us.

Myself, Jon Armstrong and Ross Gowing had a sit-down during the week to look ahead and give the new location a go, and it’s a lot of fun. We’re hoping to share more about our session early next week so keep an eye out for that.

Estering is available as part of Season 2’s content. If you’ve got the Deluxe Edition of the game it will be waiting for you once it goes live, and if you’re a Standard Edition player you can upgrade to the Deluxe Content Pack below to get all content from Seasons 1 and 2:

As with recent DLC drops it’s a rolling release throughout the day, so don’t expect it to be available on the stroke of midnight. Depending on where you are in the world and what platform you’re on Estering will get added to the storefronts and your Deluxe Content entitlements later in the day. By the end of Tuesday you’ll all be motoring though, and if you’re not light up the Twitter account so we can investigate.

@dirtgame Twitter

Speaking of Twitter, you may have noticed that @dirtgame was down on Thursday. Shortly after announcing VR I was doing some routine updates to the profile, and one of those put the account on lockdown. The team here and our friends at Twitter were on top of it right away and by the time you read this we’re back up to racing speed, huzzah!

If you haven’t already I recommend you follow our Twitter (and other socials too, since we do cool stuff on each); even though this was a big week it’s not the end of what’s happening in August. More on that soon, so stay tuned.

See you all next week!
