Codies Racing Line – August 22, 2019

Can’t stop, won’t stop. It feels like every time a new Racing Line gets penned, there’s even more big Codemasters news to talk about – and our latest issue is no exception. The Racing Line was always designed to be your one-stop-shop for all the big Codemasters headlines from the past two weeks, and with so much going on, we need it now more than ever!

We’ve got brand new gameplay, big content insights, interviews with motor racing royalty and so much more for you this time around. To kick things off, we’re heading down the Autobahn and straight to Cologne…

GRID

We’re coming to you LIVE from gamescom this week, as we’re showing off GRID to the gaming world, here in Cologne. It’s been fantastic to give players a taste of what to expect when the brand new GRID launches in October 8 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, as well as chatting to global media and partners. The reaction has been super positive ever since we touched down in Germany, and on Monday night it was announced that GRID was selected for Best Racing Game at gamescom 2019. Congrats to the whole team on this amazing achievement – see, we told you the reaction was positive. ;)

Before we jetted across Europe, though, we gave you a host of headlines and heavy-hitting content for GRID. Our latest gameplay footage showcased the Tuner – Super Modified cars on the revamped Barcelona circuit. Get it watched:

After that, we revealed the first video from our sit-down with GRID’s Race Consultant, Fernando Alonso. The F1 and Le Mans champion delved deeper into how he’s assisting with making GRID #LikeNoOther, and how key elements of the game fit perfectly with his love for racing. You’ll see what I mean here:

That video also gives you a first look at one of Alonso’s most beloved cars that we’ve brought into the world of GRID…

Yep, Fernando’s championship-winning Renault R26 is in GRID, and you can race on any circuit, on any route, in any weather condition or event setup. That’s if you can tame this monster, of course…

F1 2019

Hey all,

The F1 summer break is in now full force – we cannot wait for Spa now, but we’d love to hear how you’re getting through these F1-less weeks! If you haven’t picked up F1 2019 yet, you can grab up to 30% off  on PS4 US right now!

The F1 Esports Challenger Series is starting up starting next Tuesday night, and you can find out more about this here. We can’t wait to see those who qualified in the first two 2020 F1 Esports Series Events start on their journey to next year’s Pro Draft, and we hope you can join us for the fun too!

Just in case you missed it, patch 1.08 was released on all platforms last week, updating a lot of the cars, including the ’90 Years’ livery on the Ferrari – you can take a look at all of these right here. Patch 1.09 was released on all platforms yesterday, and you can check out the patch notes, including some news on the Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon switch, right here as well!

F1® MOBILE RACING

It’s been a brilliant couple of weeks in the world of F1® Mobile Racing, with players across the globe taking part in Duel after Duel to reach the new Elite Leagues and take on the world’s best drivers. The leaderboards are getting more competitive by the hour and there are big rewards up for grabs, so make sure you’re locked into Elite League as the first month of racing comes to a close.

Back at base, the team are carrying out the usual post-update assessments and tweaks to ensure the game is performing at its peak. We recently made a small live change to Elite League leaderboards to further ensure fairness and rewards for consistent, fast racers, and we’ll continue to optimise wherever we can. DiRT RALLY 2.0

 

Hey everyone!

After all that’s been going on last week the past few days have been rather quiet on the DiRT side as we gear up for the start of Season 3. The SUBARU Impreza (2001) and Ford Focus Rally 2001 are up next, 2 cars that veterans have fond memories of. I think that SUBARU will be my go-to-pick for the Up to 2000cc Class in-game, can’t get enough of that iconic blue and yellow livery.

In other news we’re carefully monitoring all of the VR feedback you have given us, and investigating the ways that we can improve performance of the feature in future. Some fixes are already in the pipeline while others are in the early discussion stages (nothing is as simple as “flipping a switch” in games development after all). Check out the DiRT Roadbook tomorrow for more info.

Speaking of what’s to come, we’ve got a surprise announcement! You’ll have seen last week that we announced Seasons 3 and 4 of DiRT Rally 2.0, along with what cars and locations you can expect to see over the next few months. One car from Season 4 wasn’t ready to be announced at the time but we’re delighted to confirm now that Oliver Bennett’s Mini Cooper SX1 is coming! This 2019-spec FIA World Rallycross Championship car will join its peers from Ford and Peugeot on January 14. Oliver and XITE Energy have been great supporters of Codemasters games in recent years so it’s great to finally have their top car in DiRT Rally 2.0.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS?

– It’s coming home! The official Codemasters football team, Sporting CM, has clinched the local Division 2 five-a-side football league – with two games to spare! Captained by Joel Summers (well, he’s the guy who runs the WhatsApp group…), Sporting CM have recorded eight straight wins to take the title. Let’s hope we can hold on to our star players during the break, add a bit of squad depth, take it one game at a time, and put a on a show for the fans…
